the rule of three...
...very simply put, is a theory in writing that everything is better in threes. An idea reinforced, a rhyme or alliteration or even the three-act structure of most stories. Good news for photography enthusiasts - there's a third gallery of my photos to prove once and for all that everything is better in threes! Never fear, this isn't the final gallery either, there are plenty more to come. In this gallery, enjoy mountaintops and distant harbours, chill with an ancient tortoise and watch a vibrant Hawaiian sunset. Enjoy my third selection of photographs!
3.1 - a view from the top of Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, taken in November 2018.
3.2 - the Subway system in Boston is actually one of the oldest in the world, a fact that surprised me when I learned it, but really makes sense.
3.3 - my photography relies heavily on natural lighting, so indoor concert photography isn't something I've mastered yet, but this is a favorite shot from WinterJam.
3.4 - in between my trips, I'd spend time outside the Cadiz, Ohio Wendy's talking to the birds and taking their photos. This blue jay was one that I always enjoyed seeing.
3.5 - the famous Reno sign that you see as you enter the Nevada city.
3.6 - a dove peers down at me from a cactus on my visit to Phoenix in 2017.
3.7 - a favorite of mine. I was watching the sunset on Waikiki Beach when I noticed what a great shot this couple would make watching the sunset on the beach as well.
3.8 - the famous Western Town at Paramount Movie Ranch, famous for shows like Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, in 2017. It later burned to the ground in the fires of 2019.
3.9 - taken on Hayden Butte in Tempe, Arizona, this shot of a man sitting on the edge looking over the city is, as they say, "a mood."
3.10 - an elephant in the Honolulu Zoo on my first visit at the end of 2017.
3.11 - a veritable time capsule of the 1950's, these passenger carriages once used to carry people regularly, but now are only used in special events - thankfully preserved by railway enthusiasts.
3.12 - one of my favorite bands, FF5 (formerly Family Force 5) in one of their final performances - and the only time I got to see them. July 2017.
3.13 - a leopard takes a nap in the heat of the afternoon.
3.14 - I originally took this photo because I found a boat crossing sign in the desert amusing. Tempe Beach Park in Tempe, Arizona.
3.15 - a sign for the London Underground in one of the big stations.
3.16 - Hole in the Rock in Papago Park in Phoenix. If you walk around the back of the rock formation, there is a path up into the hole in the middle and from there you can see out over the whole park.
3.17 - Waikiki Beach in the warm sunlight of the evening. December in Hawaii.
3.18 - a Toucan at Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake City, Utah.
3.19 - a view of Sydney Harbour from Stargazer Lawn, one of the local parks. A lot of seagulls there, and yes, they all scream "mine" like in Finding Nemo.
3.20 - I'm generally fascinated by harbor cities and Boston is no exception. This was taken very early in the year while it was still cold.
3.21 - a view from Hole in the Rock, scroll back up to 3.16 for a different perspective of this same rock.
3.22 - buildings along Venice Beach in California, eagle-eyed fans of 80's television will recognize the building to the left of the photo as MacGyver's apartment from season 1 of the classic show.
3.23 - the Sandia Peak Tramway in Albuquerque, New Mexico takes you high above the city up the mountain to some amazing views.
3.24 - a tortoise relaxes in his pool during the heat of a Phoenix afternoon.
3.25 - one of my random flowers, not sure which one or from where. Most likely next to the Griffith Observatory in LA, while I was in town for my Blue's Clues audition.
3.26 - the Orpheum Theater in Phoenix, Arizona. I've never had the opportunity to see anything there, but it is one of the most popular venues in the city.
3.27 - a large rock just off the beach in San Francisco, near the Golden Gate Bridge.
3.28 - I walked right up to this elk and took her picture in Grand Canyon National Park, obviously this is dangerous and probably illegal and not something I'll do again, but I was utterly transfixed by this magnificent animal.
3.29 - another view of the Sydney Opera House, from under the Sydney Harbour Bridge. I like a good picture of a bench and this is one of my most exotic ones.
3.30 - a flamingo, one of my favorite birds, in one of the many zoos I've visited.
